Police arrest bank officials planning robbery
Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has reaffirmed that his government would continue to battle crime and criminality in Nigeria.
The IGP praised the Oyo Command and the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Squad (FIB-IRT) for recent accomplishments in a statement released by Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi.
Baba applauded the increased use of technologically sophisticated resources, community-based rather than conventional policing techniques, and increased police visibility.
The IGP recognized the successes that had been made in tracking down and apprehending criminal suspects using both technology and human intelligence.
Two bank employees and four members of a “notorious bank heist ring” have been detained, according to Baba.
The terrorists were apprehended after they abandoned their preparations to attack a new generation bank in the Oyo city of Ibadan.
The FIB-IRT also detained five members of a fraud gang that was particularly skilled at breaking into the bank accounts of both private citizens and business entities.
As they attempted to hack into a company’s account and steal N3.4 billion, the police apprehended them.
Additionally, in Kaduna, IRT agents detained two kidnapping suspects and infamous arms traffickers, resulting in the release of two hostages.
Adejobi noted that when the investigations were over, the suspects will be prosecuted in court.
Baba reaffirmed his commitment to maximizing operational efficiency and ordered the police to keep pursuing individuals involved in criminal activity.
