Lalong Inaugurates Committee On Road Traffic Administration. Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau on Monday announced an interim management committee for traffic management and vehicle inspections, to operate in the city of Jos and Bukuru.
Speaking at a forum at Government House Jos, Lalong tasked members to work with the relevant security agencies to ensure compliance and compliance with public safety.
He said the committee should be friendly, professional, but very strict on those who want to break traffic rules.
“In recent times, we have taken steps such as the closure of motorcycles and certain hours of operation of the Keke Tricycle.
“However, I have to express my disappointment that many drivers are still violating these restrictions without consequences,” he said.
He said the committee should ensure that the disruption was no longer tolerated, adding that he would be monitoring their activities to ensure they were working.
Lalong said the committee would be guided by legislation establishing the Plateau State Road Traffic Administration and Vehicle Inspection Authority 2020, and urged them to make the public aware of their services.
”The Act actually provides for improved traffic management with the aim of ensuring safety, availability, comfort, order, and better management of transport that enables the government to collect revenue from the sector effectively.
“While enforcing, you should also make strong sensitivity, negotiate with stakeholders and hold a response mechanism to help you address citizen concerns,” he said.
The governor said the committee would be instrumental in ensuring that criminals could not enter the state to establish their criminal background, following the mass exodus of vehicles from Plateau.
He said traffic congestion; the expansion of car parks; indiscriminate parking; increase in crime; other attacks related to innocent passengers require immediate committee action.
He said the committee should work closely with the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service to ensure that all tolls, fines and fees are collected in a transparent manner, and in a timely manner to ensure the implementation of other road construction and rehabilitation projects.
Responding on behalf of the committee, the chairman, Mr Noel Pirinkwap, thanked the governor for his opportunity to serve the state, and assured him that they would work hard to achieve the committee’s objectives.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee comprises seven members, including representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corp and the country’s Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer who will serve as its secretary among others.
